Good morning, Madam Mary Chin, our beloved headmistress teacher and friends. For this special occasion I will deliver a short speech entitled “The Importance of Cross-Cultural Communication”. Before I proceed giving reasons for the importance of cross-cultural communication, I would like to share the definition of the word ‘cross-cultural’ means ‘across cultures’. Thus ‘cross-cultural’ communication means communicating across and with other cultures.
Malaysia is a multicultural country. People of different races live harmoniously together. Through constant communication , we can understand each other better. This will bring about greater understanding of the ways others live and their world view. Greater understanding among us can foster peace.
Good cross-cultural communication can contribute to our economic growth. If all Malaysians are able to work together ierrespective of race and cultural background, we can pool our resources and produce more things. This will spur economic growth.
Lastly, cross-cultural communication can bring about a greater sense of belonging. People of different races will appreciate each other better if they communicated among themselves in an honest and open manner. So, before I end my speech today I wish to express my hope that each and every one of us try to communicate with people from cultures that are different from our own at least once a day.
Thank you very much for your attention. I wish you a Happy National Day. May our country be prosperous forever.
